Americas turn towards fascism takes on a more sinister tone. Trump has now declared that the enemy is the American people. Having forced universities, the media, and civil society groups to bend the knee to him, Trump is now going after the average citizen who may dissent.

In an address today to 800 military leaders, Trump told the military personnel that the USA is “under invasion from within”.

We’re under invasion from within. No different from a foreign enemy, but more difficult in many ways because they don’t wear uniforms. At least when they’re wearing a uniform you can take them out. These people don’t have uniforms, but we are under invasion from within. We’re stopping it very quickly. After spending trillions of dollars defending the borders of foreign countries with your help we’re defending the borders of our own country from now on.

The purpose of this gathering of military personnel was to force a show of loyalty for what is to come. Trump told everyone in attendance that if they didn’t like or agree with what he was saying then they were free to leave, but their career would exit with them. He also said before his address that he would fire any general on the spot if he didn’t like them.

Since Charlie Kirk was assassinated the agenda shifted to waging war on the enemies of the administration. Antifa, literally anti-fascists, have been branded a terrorist organisation. Antifa does not exist as a coherent organisation. They are not the IRA, ETA, or Baader-Meinhof Gang. They do not have a hierarchical power structure, they do not have a organisation premises, you cannot write to them. Anybody that is against fascism is Antifa. This included an overwhelming majority of Americans not so long ago.

Trump has said that Chicago will be the next city that he sends the military into. Any emergent resistance is likely to be attributed to Antifa, thereby delegitimising opposition through its association with a stigmatised political actor.

As there wasn’t any pushback when ICE abducted individuals, the Trump administration is now escalating and coming after left wing individuals and groups. Kirk is the justification for that escalation.
